NEW YEAR, NEW SKIN!

Your Top 5 Skincare Concerns and How to Fix Them

Happy New Year! It’s that time when everyone is making resolutions and setting goals for the year. Many  resolutions will revolve around looking–and FEELING–better! So, why not make better skin part of your New Years’ goals?

Here are five common skin issues and how to address them in the new year!

Wrinkles

According to the American Society of Plastic Surgeons, Botox is the most popular minimally-invasive cosmetic procedure with an estimated 4.4 million injections performed last year. Obviously, wrinkles are one of your top skincare concerns. In fact, the fastest growing age-group receiving the wrinkle-treatment is 18-24 year olds!

Not ready to go under the needle just to achieve smooth skin? Luckily, there are a few non-invasive alternatives. First, a great skincare routine, plus extra hydration from the inside-out, will diminish the appearance of fine-lines and wrinkles. In addition, facial massage, facial yoga, and facial patches can actually train your muscles to lay flat and prevent wrinkles.

Join Frownies, the Original Wrinkle Patch, in their #frownies30daychallenge on Instagram to see how these simple paper patches can train your muscles to lay flat and diminish the appearance of wrinkles.

Dry Skin

It seems like everyone is battling dry skin this time of year with the cold, dry winter air. There are a few simple things that you can do to address dry skin. First, make sure you are hydrating from the inside-out! Yes, just drink more water! Aim for 64 ounces of water each day as an achievable goal. (Bonus: This will also help with your exercise and weight-loss resolutions!)

Second, use a great facial moisturizer. Look for deep penetrating moisturizers that won’t clog pores. We love layering Frownies Rose Water Hydrator with hyaluronic acid under Frownies Moisturizer Face & Neck with its aloe base and naturally occurring vitamin E.

Additionally, you can lock in moisture while you sleep by skipping your standard cotton pillowcase which can actually pull hydration from your face. Opt for silk or bamboo–You’ll love the luxurious feel!

Acne

While we think of acne as a concern of our teenage years, the fact is that acne can plague us at any point in our lives. Whether it’s “that time of the month” or pregnancy-related, it’s especially embarrassing to deal with as an adult. Diet and hydration may help in preventing acne. Again, drink plenty of water to aid your body in eliminating toxins. Keep a food journal to try to pinpoint any triggers–fats and sugars are common ones!

A key component in treating acne is washing your face-twice a day and after exercise-to cleanse your skin of bacteria, environmental toxins, and pore-clogging make-up. We love Frownies pH Balancing Face Wash because it’s soap-free formula includes fruit peel extracts that gently, but effectively, deep clean pores and balance the skin’s natural pH. And the pH balancing properties make it perfect for any skin type, from oily to acne-prone.

Large Pores

There are actually a number of reasons your pores may appear large. As we age, our skin loses elasticity, and pores tend to look larger on sagging skin. Our skin also changes texture as we age; thicker skin creates the appearance of larger pores. But there are some products that you can use to address these issues.

Of course, start by washing your face twice per day to make sure dirt or makeup is not settling into your pores, which can make them appear clogged and larger. You may also deep clean your pores one to two times per week with a great facial mask. We love Frownies Blue Green Algae Clay Mask with three different types of pore-clearing clays.

Check out what one customer had to say about Frownies Blue Green Algae Clay Mask:

"It seriously feels like my skin is lifted firmer and so much more clean after just one treatment."

Dark Circles and Bags

The skin under the eyes is up to 10 times thinner than the rest of the face which can show signs of fatigue and aging more quickly. Using specific creams for the under eyes to provide targeted hydration to keep the skin under the eye smooth and supple. Make sure to gently pat in a small amount of product using your ring finger, the weakest finger, to protect the delicate under-eye area. Frownies Eye Cream comes with the added benefit of caffeine from green tea to reduce the appearance of dark circles and decrease puffiness under the eye.

Under eye patches are also becoming increasingly popular to achieve that spa-like experience at home! Under eye patches help targeted ingredients to deeply penetrate the skin of the under-eye. We love Frownies Cactus Collagen Under Eye Gels–They are cooling and soothing; they provide ultra-hydration with aloe vera; and they are reusable!
