Cancer Proof Your Home Cleaning Products

Frownies has the highest of standards when it comes to skin care product ingredients (#ingredientsmatter) so considering how much time and energy we spend on making sure what we put on our skin is healthy we must also consider ALL the products in our home environment. we think of skin as a barrier to the outside harmful chemicals but really our skin is a living breathing organ. To protect the whole body we must also make sure the products used around us are not only safe but promote and protect your body's health.

The chemical industry has successfully brainwashed the general public into associating its various chemical-based home “cleaning” products with sanitation. These products are in tens of millions of people’s homes, and are anything but safe. You want your homes to be a safe place for your families and friends, but how can you secure that safety if you do not know what toxic, cancer causing chemicals are hiding in products.

Cleaning products including those branded as “green” contain hidden carcinogens: 1,4 dioxane (also present in many laundry soap products, even those branded “natural”), Chloroform, and Phthalates and toluene (reproductive toxins). Toxic substances are not always listed in the ingredients; this makes it difficult to trust what is safe for you and your family to use in your home. Here you can find a list of household cleaning products as well as alternative non-toxic options.

      Harmful Home Cleaning Supplies

known Germ-killers for taking on cleaning your home are some of the MOST DANGEROUS chemical solutions residing in your home. Every harmful chemical found in personal care products, is also found in household cleaning supplies. In addition EVEN WORSE substances such as:

      • Lye (acorrosive acid)
      • Ammonia
      • Chloramine gases
      • 1,4-dioxane
      • Lists of hormone-disrupting chemicals (a major contributor to cancer)

NONE OF THESE CHEMICALS ARE NECESSARY!

Basic ingredients such as water, vinegar, and baking soda (sodium bicarbonate) are just as effective with no toxicity! There are safe alternatives even for tough jobs like degreasing and scrubbing. Start thinking, “make your own” when it comes to cleaning supplies. If you try to avoid certain products you will go crazy, because basically all of them are full of hidden toxic chemicals. It is easier to focus on which solutions are safe than weed through commercial product.

      Safe Alternative Multipurpose Cleaning potions

      DIY Cleaner

      ½ cup vinegar

      ¼ cup baking soda

      2 quarts of water

(Add a small amount of lemon juice, vinegar, and borax to make the solutions more potent)

      • CitraSolv (contains no harsh solvents or synthetic detergents)
      • Bon Ami (safe, all natural, powder cleanser for scrubbing sinks/showers)
      • 3 parts vinegar to 1 part warm water (to clean windows)
      • BioShield (premixed safe, non-toxic)
      • Ecover (premixed safe, non-toxic)
      • Seventh Generation (premixed safe, non-toxic)
      • Shaklee (premixed safe, non-toxic)
      • Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Liquid Soap:

      a. Mopping: Pour 1/2 cups of soap in 3 gallons of hot water.

      b. Windows: Add a tablespoon of soap into a quart of water in a spray bottle. Follow up with pure club soda or half vinegar/half water to prevent streaking.

      c. All-Purpose Cleaner: Pour 1/4 cup of Dr. Bronner's soap into a quart of water in a spray bottle.

      Laundry Detergent

The laundry cleaning industry is a purveyor of the poison 1,4-dioxane (a chemical byproduct that results from a cheap chemical processing method often used in the personal care product industry). The worst quality brands being the most popular. Some of the “green” brands were found to containing high levels of 1,4 dioxane (Sad face)!

      Safe laundry detergent brands

(showing undetectable levels of 1,4 Dioxane:)

      • Clorox Green Works Natural
      • Esos
      • Life Tree laundry Liquid
      • Method squeaky Gree
      • Seventh Generation Free & Clear

      Safest Most Toxic-Free Laundry Detergents

(According to the Environmental Working Group (EWG) Ecover ZERO Laundry Liquid Concentrate)

      • Biokleen Laundry Liquid, Citrus Essence
      • Planet 2x Ultra laundry Detergent
      • GrabGreen Delicate laundry Detergent Pods
      • Sun & Earth Laundry Detergent
      • Green Shield Organic Laundry Detergent

And again… Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Liquid 1/3-1/2 cup of soap for a large load; some recommend combining 1 cup baking soda or Borax, and diluting with water

      Safe Dish Soap/Washing Detergent

As well we laundry detergent, hand soap, and home cleaning supplies, dish soaps are full of endocrine-disrupting chemicals, carcinogenic substances, and other unknown byproducts of questionable origin.  When looking for safe alternatives to big name brands turn to:

      • Seventh Generation
      • Earth Friendly, Better Life
      • Honest
      • DIY!

      a. Dr. Bronner’s Pure Castile Liquid Soap: Dr. Bronner's recommends diluting the soap 1 to 10 with water, and then squirting the diluted mix onto a scrub brush. This only works when hand washing dishes, and not in a dishwasher.

      b. DIY Dish Soap: 2 parts Borax 2 parts washing soda (derivative of baking soda), 12 parts Dr. Bronner’s Sal Suds, and 15-20 drops of your favorite essential oils.

      Safe Air Fresheners

Air fresheners are unregulated and among the most toxic products in the home. ESSENTIAL OILS ARE THE ONLY SAFE ALTERNATIVE for keeping living spaces freshly scented; use all natural essential oils with water in a diffuser.

      • “The Jasmine”, by Stadler Form of Switzerland (water-based ultrasonic diffuser
      • doTERRA Aroma Ace “cold diffusion” diffuser
      • Améo Essential Oils
      • doTERRA (essential oils)
      • Young Living (essential oils)
      • Mountain Rose Herbs (essential oils)
      • Hopewell (essential oils)
      • Air Therapy Freshening Mist air fresheners pre-made with JUST essential oils.

      Shower Curtains

      • The shower curtains most people use, polyvinyl chloride (PVC) shower curtain liners are incredibly toxic! Often outgassing dangerous volatile organic compounds (VOCs) such as:
      • Xylene
      • Toluene
      • Dioxins
      • Endocrine (hormone) disruptors
      • Cadmium
      • Lead

      Healthy Shower Curtain Solution

Opt for an inexpensive PEVA vinyl shower curtain. Also Hemp-based shower curtains such as the ones by Rawganuque are an eco-friendly option.

It may seem  “safe” to use big brand names that we commonly see advertised but the fact is these products are cancer causing. Understanding businesses are trying to make as much money as they can (and are willing to compromise public safety to do so), will help you grasp this horrific hard truth. We want you to see there are other options. If you want to cancer proof your life it may take some of you choosing to make new, and better choices about health and happiness! From Skin care to home cleaning products health is always the first priority for Frownies Family members!

      DIY Homemade Healthy Baby Products

DIY Baby Skin Care Frownies Blog

Frownies brand skin care believes DIY is about rediscovering the traditional value of doing things yourself, doing them naturally, and enjoying the benefits that come with quality ingredients! If you’ve been choosing DIY recipes over chemical ridden big brand products, Welcome to the movement! We cannot stress enough the importance of using clean products as a way of protecting yourself and your family! As a parent you will do whatever necessary to protect your young, but what about the harmful chemicals hiding in common baby products such as wipes, powder, wash/shampoo and lotion or diaper rash cream. There are healthy alternatives that are not harmful to our loved little ones, and even better we have DIY recipes that can be made in the comfort of your own home!

      Homemade Baby Wipes

Homemade baby wipes are quick and easy to make. You can use cloth so the wipes can be reused, or paper towels if you would like the wipes to be disposable. Bonus: the wipe solution can be used for diaper spray!

Using a sharp knife cut 1 roll premium paper towels in half width wise

      ½ roll

      1 cup of water

1 tablespoon toxic-free wash or pure castile soap

½ tablespoon organic baby oil or olive oil or coconut oil

      1. Mix liquid ingredients
      2. Put paper towels in a large mixing bowl, pour mixed liquid over the top of the paper towels
      3. Let mixture soak for about 10 minutes
      4. Flip towels over and allow to sit for another 10 minutes
      5. Pull out the center cardboard core and the wipes will pop up through the center of the roll ready to dispense

*For diaper spray, put formula in spray bottle, spray on baby’s bottom and pat dry.  Since the formula does not contain icky preservatives just make enough to last a few days.

      Homemade Baby Powder

Regular baby powder contains talc (closely related to asbestos), which has been linked to many forms of cancer. Cancer causing baby powder—WHAT?! Please do not put this on your baby’s tender tushie!

      ½ cup arrowroot powder

1 teaspoon chamomile or calendula flowers (powder in blender or food processor) or a few drops of chamomile essential oil

      1. Powder the chamomile or calendula
      2. Mix with arrowroot
      3. Store in glass jar or sugar shaker for easy use

      Natural Baby Wash/Shampoo

Babies actually do not need soaps or shampoos! They have natural protective oils in their skin that are better not washed off! If you must use soap to feel your baby is clean, use Dr. Bronner’s sensitive skin liquid castile soap for a shampoo or wash.

      Homemade Diaper Rash Cream

Shea butter, coconut oil and beeswax! Isn’t it great knowing EXACTLY what you are using on your gentle baby! Of course this recipe has coconut oil due to its soothing skin improving properties. Coconut oil reduces redness and itching, beeswax moisturizes while preventing bacteria, and Shea butter has anti-fungal and anti-inflammatory (to fight yeast infection).

2.5 oz beeswax (pastilles will melt faster)

¼ cup +2 tablespoons coconut oil

      1 oz Shea butter

      2 teaspoons cocoa butter

      1. Heat all ingredients
      2. Stir
      3. When melted pour in jars or tins and allow to cool.

*This recipe is safe to use with cloth diapers!

FEEL PROUD THAT YOU ARE MAKING HEALTHY CHOICES FOR YOUR BABY AND PROVIDING A BETTER ENVIRONMENT FOR YOUR BABY TO BUILD A STRONG FOUNDATION FOR THEIR IMMUNE SYSTEM!!! YOUR LITTLE ONE THANKS YOU BECAUSE INGREDIENTS MATTER!

      What about you?

Frownies skin care is made in our lab by hand just for you! Small batches of clean natural ingredients as a matter of face if you don't want to need diaper rash cream use Frownies Skin Serum on that sweet bottom daily and keep it soft.

Get a Head Start on Your Holiday Savings: Now is the time.

Frownies Blog Holiday Skin Care Special

Here at Frownies It’s beginning to look a lot like Christmas! Wait, what?! It is not even halloween! As much as we complain when stores deck the halls while it’s still beach season, it turns out that they are actually on to something. Although we’ve got over a month or two left until the holiday season begins, the best time to start plotting out your holiday spending is NOW, believe it or not. The more you plan ahead, the less likely you are to overdo it — and the more likely you are to still have some jingle in your wallet when 2020 rolls around!

No one wants to be a sad Santa this holiday season— get moving on these seven head starts to saving so this holiday season is a joyous occasion. We’ve got your budgeting, planning and shopping to-dos.

      Holiday Budget

Just as with any other financial goal, the first step to getting financially ahead for the holiday season is to nail down a budget.

One of the best ways to do that, is to add up last year’s holiday receipts and credit card charges for a clear picture of what you spent.

You can then use these numbers as the basis for creating a 2019 holiday budget worksheet, where you’ll plug in realistic estimation for every holiday spending category — from entertaining and gifts to travel and charity donations.

Once you’ve landed on the right figures, devise a specific savings strategy that you’ll execute over the next six months to cover those holiday costs — such as brown-bagging your lunch a couple days a week or skipping Starbucks, and save on the difference.

      Holiday Savings Account

Even if you’re not quite ready to start your holiday shopping, it’s never too early to start your holiday saving.

While it may seem easier to simply funnel your holiday money into a catchall savings account that also includes your emergency cash—Your emergency fund should be used for emergencies only—we cannot stress enough how vital it is to keep emergency savings separate. Opening different accounts for each savings goal is a good way to keep from dipping into funds assigned for a different purpose.

When shopping for a place to park your holiday cash, look at online banks, which typically offer favorable interest rates as well as provide an extra layer of protection against the temptation to withdraw the funds for other things.

Another benefit to starting your saving early is you will be able to take out a smaller amount each pay period than if you wait until December.

      Holiday Spending Plan

With a first draft of your holiday budget in hand, dig deeper by pinpointing exactly how you’ll spend money within each category to ensure your numbers are accurate.
Knowing whom you want to buy gifts for — and how much you’ll be spending on each person — is key.

Creating a plan well before the holidays not only keeps you organized, but it allows you to take advantage of deals throughout the year — alleviating overspending when you’re pressured at the last minute.

      Stop Habitual Spending

Let’s be real: There’s always room to scale back your budget a bit more. Whether it’s your tendency to toss a magazine into your cart at the supermarket checkout or to order several appetizers with dinner, choose one unnecessary expense you can live without — and funnel the money saved into your holiday account.

      Seasonal Sales

Since you’re getting an early start to your holiday shopping this year, you’ll actually be able to take advantage of seasonal sales.

Gift cards are great because you can use them as presents or stocking stuffers, or as a way to save on your own holiday expenses.

Back-to-school sales are also a great time to find deals on winter wear items that will be perfect for holiday gifts. Also following retailers’ social media accounts to source additional discounts is the secret to shopping sales.

Want another shopping secret? You can grab gift cards at up to 90 percent off for such stores as Target, Home Depot, and GameStop on a site like GiftCardGranny.

      Redeem Rewards

Summer spending probably racked up quite a few credit card points that you can put to good use for your holiday spending, but before redeeming, do some research on your creditor’s website to ensure you’re not missing out on any valuable incentives.

And, of course, remember to only charge what you can pay off in full — lest you end up triggering interest charges that will cancel out those reward benefits.

      Track To-Do List

There’s just one downside to all this proactive holiday planning: If you’re not careful, you’re likely to forget what you’ve purchased and buy it twice — which is why organization is key.

While it takes some initial effort to stay organized, your reward will come in December when you’re sipping vegan eggnog by the fire and others are frantically duking it out at the mall for last minute gifts.

Treating Skin Issues with Whole Vitamin E Oil

Best skin care ingredients, clean skin care

Body oils have become so popular but don’t forget to check the label! FROWNIES stresses how important it is to have organic and natural ingredients! Sadly harmful chemicals in skin-care products are not always listed in the ingredients; it is good to find a brand that you can trust has the best ingredients to promote your health! Whole vitamin E oil has shown MANY health benefits and healing properties for the skin –here we will touch on some skin issues vitamin e oil is ready to tackle!

      Anti-aging

Vitamin E oil has an amazing anti-aging effect that will leave skin looking amazing. Habits such as excessive intake of alcohol, smoking, or lack of the proper skin regime often induce onset signs of aging before time. Topical application of Vitamin E oil promotes the production of two key protein components, collagen and elastin (improves skin elasticity). Vitamin E reduces the appearance of age spots, fine lines, and wrinkles, which gives you younger looking skin. Vitamin E has antioxidant properties that fight off damaging effects of free radicals and lower the chances of new wrinkles appearing. WHOLE form vitamin E is used as a key ingredient in Frownies Immune Shield Vitamin E Serum.

      Dry Skin

Vitamin E prevents the skin from loosing water and helps to retain skin’s natural moisture. Vitamin E helps dull, dry skin look healthy and moisturized. Vitamin E oil can be used regularly for deep pore cleansing of dry or oily skin to restore the normal oil balance of the skin.

      Sunburn

Vitamin E oil is used to treat sunburns! When applied topically vitamin E oil is instantly absorbed by the by the epidermal layer of the skin, healing damage caused by ultraviolet radiation and relieving pain. Vitamin E can also be used for protection from sun damage.

      Scars

Vitamin E helps remove and decrease the appearance of scars from the skin! Apply Vitamin E oil to acne scars or any other form of scar to rid skin of scaring. Vitamin E oil first softens the affected area of skin and then lightens the mark after a few weeks of application. The scar will eventually fade out after a few months. Vitamin E speeds up the regeneration process of skin cells, replacing damaged skin cells with healthy new ones.

      Stretch Marks

By now you cans see how Vitamin E oil would be equally effective at removing or lessening the appearance of stretch marks. If pregnant apply vitamin E oil to abdomen when belly starts to expand. This will relieve itching sensation caused by the stretching of the skin and prevent stretch marks! Vitamin E oil can also be used to remove preexisting stretch marks. Vitamin E oil increases the production of new skin cells and helps restore skin’s natural elasticity. Regular application will eliminate stretch marks.

      Nails and Cuticles

Vitamin E oil is most commonly known for maintaining nail health. Just a few drops of vitamin E oil can help heal broken nails and prevent future breakage. Bring poorly kept nails back to life by using regularly!

      Serum

When choosing any product you want to remember that if you compromise on the quality of the ingredients you can end up compromising possible health benefits. Many products extract only part of the Vitamin e and then combine with other ingredients (sometimes harmful). Be sure to look for WHOLE Vitamin E.

Frownies is 100% WHOLE plant based ingredients! Frownies Vitamin E Skin Serum contains whole form vitamin E from oat lipids, and outer fine oils, along side ingredients with potentially healing properties.

GET THE GLOW FROM THE INSIDE OUT: VEGAN LIFESTYLE AND SKINCARE

      Vegan lifestyle and skin health

We at FROWNIES have noticed that more people are talking about vegan lifestylecelebrities, former presidents, eating advocates, and younger people are talking about changing their diet for the many benefits going vegan allows. The movement continues to grow at a very impressive rate—why? It's ethical, healthy, and delicious even if you don't change altogether you and your skin benefit from adding veggies.

      WHOLE FOODS DIET

The food we eat is reflected in our complexion. Nourishing the body with organic fruits, vegetables, avocados, nuts, seeds, and whole-grains shows through the skin’s healthy glow.  We say go for the glow—eat as close to nature as possible, consume a high whole-foods diet, and make sure you are getting your greens in! If you can’t seem to manage eating them boiled, saute, or in salads make a fruit and greens smoothie! Fresh juices like cucumber, carrot, and celery will also beautify the skin deliver hydration and skin-nourishing and rejuvenating fats, vitamins, and minerals and are some of the top anti-aging foods.

The first and most important factor for healthy, radiant, youthful skin, begins with a whole foods diet. Fresh vegetables and fruits are full of antioxidants and phytochemicals and (we cannot stress it enough) are particularly important in hydrating the skin. Try to incorporate as many alkaline foods into your diet-not just for skin health but also for overall health. Then use only quality skin care to enhance your glow!

      STAYING HYDRATED

Hydrate topically and hydrate internally but how? We all know that drinking a lot of water is good for the skin. Here’s the problem with that message, however. The distinction needs made between hydrating with water and naturally hydrating foods.  Fruits and vegetables are water-rich, even bananas and avocados (which have no juice) have a high water content. For sure keep drinking plenty of water (and stop drinking artificially sweetened drinks and sodas) but, increase your consumption of natural, water-rich plant foods. You will notice your body becomes hydrated from those foods (as well as receiving vitamins, antioxidants, and minerals, etc.) and you will not feel as thirsty. Of course add an aloe rich moisturizer like "Frownies Moisturizer Face and Neck" topically and your doing it all.

      EXERCISE AND SLEEP

When you exercise there is an immediate glow and the skin looks radiant, this is because exercise improves blood circulation to the skin. Exercise also improves immunity, elevates mood, and supports sleep. Sleep is the most important when it comes to overall health. Sleep is the time when everything rests in repair mode while we rest – everything including the skin repairs. When the switch is made to exercise and eat a clean, whole foods diet, sleep quality improves. When one feels rested one is more energized to keep exercise a routine and plan for healthier eating. The holistic cycle continues fomind, body, soul – and skin.

VEGAN IS MORE THAN A DIET

There are a lot of incredible choices for vegan skin care out there. Some more expensive than others, some available in stores, others online, some are small independent local retailers some are huge corporate companies. Frownies products work for all skin tones, skin types, and climates. You can rest assured in that products you chose to spend your money on when you choose Frownies Skin Care.

You carefully watch the products you put into your body, now do the same when picking out skin care products

      LESS INFLAMMATION

The National Institutes of Health (NIH) calls inflammation "a pathological condition underlying a number of diseases including cardiovascular diseases, cancer, and chronic inflammatory diseases.Evidence that plant foods and non-nutritive constituents associated with these foods modulate immunological and inflammatory processes." While the NIH study mostly covers diet, we all know avoiding inflammation is vital for skin care.  Curb inflammation and immune disease please!

      LESS SENSITIVE SKIN

No brainer: natural ingrdient skin care products work best for sensitive skin. Beauty experts note that a vegan diet typically results in healthy, incandescent looking skin—and for those with sensitive skin, plant-based products protect the glow.  All the natural, plant-based ingredients in Frownies products protect against skin irritation, and we all know how irritating irritated skin is!

      ETHICAL FOR THE PLANET

Many of us know that one of the greatest threats to rain-forest  is the clearing of land for cattle ranches.  Just like a vegan diet supports saving the planet, swapping for vegan skin care products is also ethical for the environment!

      CRUELTY FREE

Using vegan products also helps protect the animals. We are all aware of the horrors of animal testing. Animal experimentation is incredibly cruel and frankly it is disheartening that animal experimentation is currently up 73%. Choosing vegan skin care products is not just good for the skin, it's good for the conscience.  Frownies products are cruelty free, join us in doing good, feeling good, and looking great!
